The county had 14,853 legal parcels in 1999, of which 8,135 have no dwelling units and 6,718 are developed. Of these latter parcels, 6,655 are single-family residences, 63 have apartments, condominiums or mobile home parks.

Building data indicates 1,651 parcels have guest's houses and 108 have accessory apartments. Countywide, 75 percent of residences are occupied by owners or renters. The remainder is occupied seasonally.
